2013 Pikes Peak On-Board Video

Friday, December 13, 2013

This on-board video was shot during the 91st running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Rider Michael Leon raced the Amarok P1, Canada’s first Electric Superbike in his rookie attempt on the mountain. The motorcycle was virtually untested before arriving in Colorado. The team had a very challenging week including very limited practice due to charging and brake issues. They only managed one practice run on the middle section of the course. Going into the race, there was uncertainty about whether the capacity of the battery system was going to be large enough to make it to the summit. Did he make it to the top? Watch the video and find out.

NEWS:Canada’s Amarok Racing Reaches For the Clouds, Falls 1 mile Short in Re-started Pikes Peak Race

Pikes Peak, Colorado.  Team Amarok Racing, makers of Canada’s first electric racing motorcycle, competed in the 91st  Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday.  The event, also known as the Race To The Clouds, is North America’s second oldest motor race, running up the treacherous 156 corners of the mountain course into the rarefied air of the summit at over 14,000 feet.  The race is open to almost any type of motorized vehicle, and includes exotic and production-based race cars, motorcycles, quads, trucks, both gasoline and electric powered, and has long been considered a crucible for new motor vehicle technology.

Amarok was the only team from Canada, entering their proprietary P1A prototype, an all-electric racing motorcycle developed from blank sheet and entirely hand-made in a 140 year old barn behind the co-founder Michael Uhlarik’s house in Lennoxville, Quebec.  Uhlarik, a 15 year motorcycle industry veteran motorcycle designer who has worked with Yamaha, Aprilia, Piaggio, Bombardier and others, combined forces with Kevin O’Neil, a professional machinist and race car hobbyist to craft the P1A using hand tools. NEWS: Leon Announces Suspension Sponsors for 2013

Friday, May 31, 2013

Michael Leon will continue the long standing, Championship winning, relationship with Elka Suspension and Canadian Suspension Specialist John Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies. The team will once again use Elka rear shocks and receive much needed support from Accelerated Technologies for the development of a chassis setup that will work on the often challenging Canadian tracks.

For the front forks, the team has chosen a closed cartridge kit supplied by Andreani of Italy, a company that is well known in World Superbike and World Supersport circles.

Michael had a chance to test the new F3 at Rd1 of the SOAR Regional Series. With a 4th place and two 6th place finishes, the results were not as good as hoped but the team left the event with a definite direction to improve the setup of F3.

The next event for the team will be the first round of the 2013 Canadian Superbike Championship, to be held at Shannonville on June 9.

The Royal Distributing Racing Team would like to thank Royal Distributing, MV Agusta Canada, Motovan, Accelerated Technologies and Elka Suspension
