Michael Leon began the 2016 Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship with a 5th place finish on Sunday, May 26 at Shannonville Motorsport Park while riding his Royal Distributing / BMW Motorrad Canada S1000RR. The race was won by Jordan Szoke, with Kenny Reidmann, second, and Matt McBride finishing in 3rd. The event had a notable increase in spectators, and in the number of racers on the starting grid, over many recent years. The race will on TSN, check your local listings.
The weekend started off slow for the Royal Distributing team with Michael struggling a little, and completing practice in 12th and then 9th place in the opening sessions. With help from Jon Cornwell, crew chief Kyle Blakely and Michael discovered and corrected some basic setup flaws. With the S1000RR working a better, Michael was able to decrease his lap times during Saturday morning practice. Without this significant improvement, a competitive race pace would have been doubtful. The Royal Distributing Superbike Team wrapped up the final Mopar Canadian Superbike Event with a 10th and 9th place at Rounds 6 & 7 this past weekend at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Team rider, Michael Leon finished his first season back on a Superbike in 6th overall in the Canadian Superbike Championship.
Qualifying was held on Saturday morning due to heavy rain during the scheduled session on Friday. For the first time this season, Michael was not able to qualify in the top 5. As the first part of qualifying wound down, Michael sat in 8th place and elected to start installing a new Dunlop KR451 2662 (Soft) rear tire to be ready for the Top Ten Superpole Read more…
Last weekend, the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship visited Atlantic Motorsport Park, located in Shubenaciadie, Nova Scotia, for Canada’s most Eastern round of the series. The Royal Distributing Superbike Team was on hand to compete in the Pro Superbike class with their Royal Distributing / Pro 6 Cylce / Multi-Tact Inc. / BMW S1000RR machine and rider Michael Leon. The Western rounds of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship held last weekend at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton were filled with highs and lows for the Royal Distributing Superbike Team. Four seems to be the magic number this season for rider Michael Leon as he qualified 4th (again), finished 4th in Saturday’s Superbike race while setting the 4th fastest lap and finally crashing out of 4th during the opening laps of Sunday’s race. For the first time in his career, Royal Distributing rider Michael Leon led a Canadian National Superbike Race this past weekend at Round 2 of the Mopar CSBK series held in rain soaked conditions at Autodrome St-Eustache. Unfortunately, his race came to an abrupt end, on the fifth lap of the second start, when Leon crashed while leading fellow BMW rider Jordan Szoke, with reigning Champ Jodi Christie running in 3rd place.
