Royal Distributing racer, Michael Leon completed a successful first event riding the new 2015 BMW S1000RR at Round 1 of the R.A.C.E Superseries held at Shannonville Motorsports Park this past weekend, May 17, 2015.  Michael finished 6th in Pro Superbike.  He also finished 1st in the new Open Sprint class, sharing the podium with veteran Jim Proulx and fellow BMW rider Sean Huffman.

It was a struggle to make it to the event, as the team was still waiting for parts to arrive until the last minute.  The decision was made that it was better to get in some competitive laps than wait to have a perfectly prepared machine.  On Friday, the freshly painted body work was picked up from John Petrilli of GianMajor Inc, installed on the bike and Michael headed to the track.

“I can’t believe how much potential this bike has.  Even with the stock shock, we were able to run laptimes within a second and a half of the Superbike race winner.  I’m going to have to adjust to a more point and shoot style of riding though, but it will just take more seat time  That bike is SOOO Fast!.  It’s going to be a fun season!” commented Leon.

Another important part of the puzzle has fallen into place over the weekend.  Michael is proud to announce that Kyle Blakely of Windmill Motorsports has joined the team as mechanic for the Mopar Canadian Superbike tour.  Kyle will be responsible for trackside preparation and maintenance of the Royal Distributing BMW S1000RR.  For more information about Kyle, visit http://www.windmillmotorsports.com/

The team will miss longtime crew chief and close friend Carlos Carrascosa as he is unable to participate this season.  Congratulations to Carlos and Sonia as they continue to raise their beautiful family.

The team intends to complete the preparation of the bike and attend some of the Pro 6 Cycle track days being held at Calabogie in early June to prepare for the National Rd 1 on June 12th.  Visit http://www.pro6cycle.com/TrackDays/Schedule.aspx to register.

Look for an upcoming announcement about a new team sponsor later this week.

The team hopes to see you at the track.  Follow the team’s adventures at www.facebook.com/leonracing74
